Spain's Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has published instruction PROT 2026/04, which sets new technical inspection (ITV) deadlines for motorhomes and campers. The frequency depends on the vehicle category, not its name.
Key changes
- Motorhomes (category M): exempt from ITV until 4 years, then every 2 years up to 10 years, then annually.
- Campers (category N): annually up to 10 years, then every 6 months.
It is also clarified that parking without deploying external elements or draining fluids is considered ordinary parking, and parking and camping remain distinct concepts. Municipalities may limit parking time and prohibit overnight stays, based on a 2018 Supreme Court ruling. A new road sign S-128 indicates waste disposal points.
