Spain's Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has issued instruction PROT 2026/04, requiring N-category vans (commercial vans, including most DIY camper conversions) to pass a technical inspection every six months once they reach ten years of age. The instruction also confirms the right to park on public roads while sleeping inside, provided no elements are deployed outside. Starting December 31, 2026, the inspection card will be issued exclusively in electronic form with a digital signature, enabling automatic detection of expired inspections via roadside cameras. The fine for driving without a valid inspection is €200 (€100 if paid within 20 days).
