The municipality of Bueu, together with the University of Vigo, has launched a study under the European Interreg Atlantic Area programme aimed at reducing spontaneous camper van parking on beaches and developing a municipal regulatory framework. The project includes mapping of 'hot spots', user surveys and subsequent workshops with all stakeholders. The programme budget is 3 million euros, and the study will conclude in December 2027.
In the neighbouring municipality of Ribeira, the municipal council unanimously approved a PSOE proposal to develop regulations governing the parking of camper vans, caravans and motorhomes. The document aims to organise the use of public space, support private campsites and prevent long-term parking on municipal land.
