Spain Tightens Campervan Parking Rules: Fines Up to €3,000
Original source: El Debate

In Brief

Spain's Interior Ministry clarifies parking vs. camping. Municipalities restrict overnight stops, and camping gear can trigger fines from €2,000 to €3,000.

Spain has between 300,000 and 400,000 caravans and motorhomes, though the exact number is unknown as many owners do not register converted vans. The Interior Ministry has changed the rules and clarified the difference between parking and camping.

According to the DGT, parking these vehicles in regular spots is allowed, but municipalities are imposing time and place restrictions, banning stops of more than one day. Camping—which includes setting up chairs, tables, or drying laundry outside the vehicle—is prohibited and can result in fines ranging from €2,000 to €3,000 depending on the location.
