The European Union has adopted the fourth driving licence directive, which from 2029 will allow driving motorhomes up to 4.25 t with a category B licence. The new rules, effective after a transition period, require drivers to complete a one-day training course or pass an exam. The directive also permits towing a trailer up to 5 t. Owners of existing 3.5 t motorhomes can re-register them to the higher category, subject to manufacturer confirmation and possible technical modifications such as upgraded suspension and brakes.
