Authorities in South Downs and Winchester conducted a three-day operation to remove caravans, mobile homes and other unauthorised structures from an agricultural field in Soberton. Over ten years, owners repeatedly ignored enforcement notices and a court injunction. The land, intended for agriculture, has been cleared of debris for natural restoration.
The operation is a joint effort by the South Downs National Park Authority and Winchester City Council. Authorities arranged hotel accommodation for site residents and provided shaded areas and water for animals. Similar measures were previously taken on the site, and in 2023 a court sentence was issued for breaching an injunction.
