What happened
A family in France placed a caravan in their garden for their son's temporary stay. Four months later, they received an official notice from the town hall.
Legislation
According to French law, a caravan can be placed on private land without declaration for no more than three months per year. Exceeding this period requires approval from municipal authorities.
Consequences
If the caravan loses mobility — wheels are removed, permanent supports are installed, or utilities are connected — it may be reclassified as a permanent structure subject to all building regulations. Violations carry fines of up to 500 euros per day, and forced demolition is also possible.
