New DGT rules for motorhomes and campers ahead of Easter

A caravan was stolen from a private property in Petra, Mallorca, over the weekend. The owner, Sandra, said she bought the caravan with inheritance from her father. This is the second theft on her property; previously, windows and a door were taken.

The Spanish Council of Ministers has approved amendments to the General Traffic Regulations. The new rules for motorhomes prohibit extending elements beyond the vehicle's perimeter, require parking only on tires, and ban the discharge of fluids from the living compartment. The measures take effect on October 1, 2026.

A motorhome buyer filed a complaint against a dealer over a non-homologated electric step. Two months after purchase, the vehicle failed the ITV (technical inspection) due to the lack of homologation for this component. The dealer refused to cover damages, including multiple inspection trips, fuel costs, and lost vacation days.

On June 21, at a caravan site near Almería, Spain, an unknown assailant attacked a 44-year-old German woman in her motorhome with a knife and a stick. A witness intervened, preventing an alleged sexual assault. The suspect fled into the sea but was detained by police.

The municipality of Muros de Nalón (Asturias) will close the parking lot at Aguilar beach from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. from July 1 to September 30. The measure aims to prevent vans and motorhomes from staying overnight, as Mayor Celestino Novo reports daily litter and feces on the parking area. Showers and public toilets will also be closed from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. due to misuse (washing dishes, bathing dogs), with wastewater contaminating the stream that flows into the sea. Additionally, the beach bar is closed after three companies declined its concession.
