Volkswagen updates Grand California 2026 and Roadsurfer unveils Camper Cabin

A Hobby de Luxe Easy caravan was stolen on the morning of July 15 in Hilden, North Rhine-Westphalia. Police have launched an international search and are asking for public assistance; the caravan has blue and gray stripes and a rear bike rack.

Karmann has introduced the Dexter 555, based on the Fiat Ducato. The vehicle is 5.99 metres long, 2.05 metres wide, and with the insulated high roof stands almost 2.90 metres tall; interior headroom reaches 2.04 metres. It offers four berths: two single beds at the rear and a double bed that lowers electrically from the roof. The engine is a 103 kW (140 hp) diesel. Standard equipment includes a 120 Ah lithium battery, diesel heating, cruise control, cab air conditioning, Isofix mounts, an electric step and a heated waste water tank. Fresh water capacity is 100 litres, the fridge 113 litres. Optional Boost pack adds a second 135 Ah lithium battery and a 200 W solar panel; Smart pack adds a digital cockpit, keyless entry and automatic climate control. Price starts at 1,756,424 CZK.

On July 18, targeted checks of motorhomes and tourist buses are underway on the A30 and A31 in Lower Saxony. Last year, of 23 vehicles checked, five had cargo-securing violations, four were overloaded, two were banned from further travel, and one driver lacked the required license.

In Odensachsen (Haunetal, Hersfeld-Rotenburg district), the Haune-Rock festival began on July 16, 2026. Many visitors arrived early, setting up their motorhomes, caravans, and tents. On Wednesday evening, they gathered in the camper lounge for a warm-up. Organizer Sascha Ruppert noted that the number of participants grows each year up to the village's capacity. Mayor Timo Lübeck reported that the queue of vehicles stretched almost to the federal highway before the official opening.

A barn on a farm in Rhauderfehn burned down completely overnight on Tuesday. Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to other buildings; no one was injured. A classic car, a motorhome, a passenger car and several harvesters stored inside or in front of the barn were destroyed or severely damaged. Police estimate the damage in the lower six-figure range. The cause of the fire is unknown; the site has been sealed for investigation.

An old caravan was dumped in the Schneidmühlengrund area of Floh-Seligenthal, Thuringia. The site is near a designated motorhome parking area popular with tourists in summer, as well as an outdoor pool and hiking trails.
