Rongcheng boosts RV and caravan production as new growth engine

Chinese authorities included support for 'small and beautiful' tourism formats, including RV campsites, in central government documents for 2026. Jiangsu Province has already implemented a program to create roadside RV campsites on expressways. In Wuxi, where several wetland parks are located, RV campsites are gaining popularity, offering half-day RV rentals from 500 yuan (about $70).

On June 19, the Fourth Motorcycle Tourism Season kicked off at the East Taihang scenic area in Wu'an County, Hebei Province, bringing together motorhomes, caravans, and motorcyclists. The event runs until June 28 and features three themed stages: a self-drive rally (June 19–21), a motorhome festival (June 22–25), and a motorcycle festival (June 26–28). Activities include a 50-km scenic gallery drive, open-air concerts, camping, and a stamp collection challenge at six stations. Organizers have announced 2,000 themed T-shirts with Handan cultural symbols for participants.

A detailed guide for motorhome travel in the Ili region (Xinjiang) has been published. It covers parking spots near Sayram Lake and Nalati, entry policies for reserves (e.g., Kalajun, Xiata), and tips for water and electricity replenishment. Authors recommend checking parking policies via official channels and avoiding overnight stays in remote areas.

The All in CARAVANING (AIC) exhibition, one of Asia's largest caravanning and camping events, was held in Beijing last month. Around 200 brands showcased motorhomes, caravans, campervans and accessories across 30,000 square metres. Organisers cited growing domestic tourism and infrastructure improvements as key drivers. Chinese manufacturers are increasingly influential in the global supply chain, particularly in battery technology and vehicle electrification.

Airstream is known for its riveted aluminium travel trailers. The all-metal shell construction without welds contributes to durability: 70% of all units ever built are still in use, including models from the 1930s. Key specifications include a 400 Ah lithium battery, 132-litre fresh water tank, and electronic stability control to prevent sway. The trailers are popular in the glamping segment and among digital nomads.

The electric minivan Xpeng X9 has launched in Poland starting at 324,900 PLN. It is offered in three versions: a single-motor variant with a 94.8 kWh battery (up to 535 km WLTP range), a long-range version with a 110 kWh battery (up to 615 km), and an all-wheel-drive Performance Pro with two motors producing 500 hp (up to 580 km). The vehicle features an 800 V architecture enabling a 10–80% charge in 12 minutes on a suitable charger. In the independent Norwegian El Prix Summer 2026 test, the X9 charged from 10 to 80% in 13 minutes on a 400 kW station, adding 505 km of range.
