Demand for motorhomes from China in Russia grew 300 per cent over the past year. The rise is linked to growing interest in domestic tourism: travelling in such vehicles does not depend on hotels or flights, and the route can be planned freely. The space inside the vehicle is also used more efficiently.
Chinese manufacturers have increased camper production over two years, and a large share of the vehicles goes to Russia, where more than 50 models can be ordered. Prices are well below European equivalents: an entry-level motorhome costs 2 to 5 million roubles, while European models start at 6 to 7 million, easily exceed 10 to 15 million and reach 50 million in the premium segment.
Popular offers include the Changan Peak View RV with an alcove and all-wheel drive, the Maxus Life Home on SAIC's V90 chassis, the Foton Toano with living modules, the Chengli Kama built to order and the Forland S1. The Nizhny Novgorod company Luidor, long known for converting production vehicles, has presented its own motorhome based on the all-wheel-drive Sobol NN van.
