According to an Innofact survey commissioned by AutoScout24, 65% of Austrians associate motorhome travel with flexibility and independence, 58% with closeness to nature, and 52% with adventure. Cost control and comfort were mentioned by only 40% and 33% respectively. Among families with children, 31% value motorhomes for family-friendliness.
Meanwhile, Austria's new motorhome market is in decline: only 989 new motorhomes were registered in the first half of 2026, down 23.6% year-on-year. This is the second consecutive year of decline; in 2025 sales also fell by 23.6%. According to Statistik Austria, used motorhome registrations dropped 9.6% from January to May 2026. The reasons cited include the consumption tax (NoVA) and CO2 penalty, which, according to dealer Christian Pfaff, make buying a motorhome uneconomical.
The average price of used campers and vans in June 2026 was 25,791 euros, 5.3% lower than a year earlier but 49% higher than in June 2020.
