Interest in motorhomes and campervans in the UK has risen 133% since early 2026, despite Cornwall's proposed ban on overnight parking in coastal areas. Lobby group Campra calls the move short-sighted and suggests building serviced sites instead.
Demand for motorhomes, campervans and caravans in the UK has surged in spring 2026. According to Gumtree, interest in these vehicles has grown by 133% since the start of the year — four times the 33% rise in demand for regular cars. The highest interest was recorded in gateway regions for tourist travel, such as Fife in Scotland and County Antrim in Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile, Cornwall Council is considering a complete ban on overnight motorhome parking from 23:00 to 8:00 in popular coastal areas to reduce congestion. Lobby group Campra called the plans "short-sighted" and proposed creating serviced parking sites modelled on European examples instead of a ban.
A Campra survey of 6,731 owners found that 88% are dissatisfied with the availability of overnight spots in the UK, where more than half a million such vehicles are registered. A separate survey of 250 static caravan owners showed that 59% use their holiday homes year-round, 25% mainly in summer, and 13% almost every weekend.
