Registrations of motorhomes and campers grew by 26.4% in March in Spain

Restrictions for motorhomes are increasing in Spain, particularly in tourist areas. The ASEICAR map indicates where overnight bans or parking fees apply, while some regions are developing infrastructure to attract this type of tourism.

Large rocks have been placed in the coastal area of La Cantera to prevent unauthorized parking of caravans and vehicles. The measure aims to protect the natural environment from damage caused by vehicles.

The municipalities of Sant Jaume dels Domenys, Albinyana, La Bisbal del Penedès, and Cunit are jointly creating equipped parking areas for motorhomes. Each area will have capacity for five vehicles, equipped with points for grey and black water disposal, water refill, and in some cases electricity hook-ups, with a maximum stay of three days. The Baix Penedès Regional Council has allocated 54,000 euros to the project, with works expected to last about six weeks.

Spanish travelers book motorhomes and campers an average of 15 weeks in advance, two weeks less than the previous year. 77% of bookings are for European destinations, with an average trip duration of 11 days. German and Dutch tourists plan furthest ahead — almost five months in advance — while British travelers postpone their decision until 14 weeks before departure.

A court has dismissed the residents' request for a judicial administrator for the Villas Caravaning campsite in La Manga. The management company Caravaning Costa Cálida stated the ruling confirms its position: the closure is due to unauthorized constructions by some owners and a community debt of 700,000 euros, not its management. The company continues dialogue with Cartagena City Council regarding a potential reopening.

A 22-year-old couple plans to move into a used motorhome after calculating monthly expenses. Their budget includes 100-400 euros for fuel, 60-120 euros for insurance, and 200-350 euros for food. Total costs would be 600-1200 euros, which they estimate is lower than rental housing prices.
