FreeVenture GmbH, operating under the Vanever brand, has announced it will cease operations on August 16, 2026. The company, one of the largest camper and motorhome rental providers in Germany, filed for bankruptcy on August 7, 2026 due to insolvency. The Munich court has appointed a preliminary insolvency administrator.
Customers with bookings will face cancellations and possible delays in refunds of prepayments. According to the company, around 700–1000 bookings remained unfulfilled. Those already on a trip are allowed to continue and return the vehicle later. Refunds depend on the payment method: card or PayPal payments may be eligible for chargeback, bookings via Check24 should be directed to the platform, and direct bookings paid by bank transfer are only covered within the insolvency proceedings. Experts advise immediately disputing payments through banks or payment systems, as claims within the insolvency proceedings are unlikely to be satisfied.
The company had 428 campers at 12 stations in Germany and Austria, with 35 employees affected by the bankruptcy. The reasons cited include a drop in demand due to the start of the Iran-Israel war, rising fuel prices, and economic downturn. Earlier, Vanever had acquired part of the assets of bankrupt competitor Off. The future of the business and bookings remains unclear.
