Munich-based FreeVenture GmbH, operating under the Vanever brand, has filed for bankruptcy and ceased operations. Since August 16, vehicle handovers to customers have stopped at all 12 stations in Germany and Austria, and all future bookings are canceled. Clients already on trips may complete them and return the vehicle.
At the time of bankruptcy, the company had 428 campers, affecting 35 employees. Reasons cited include changes in customer behavior, rising cancellations, shorter booking lead times, and falling demand. According to another source, the filing was made on August 7 with the Munich court, which approved it on August 12 and appointed a provisional administrator. The Iran-Israel conflict, rising fuel prices, and termination of a contract by a key vehicle supplier are also mentioned. Around 700–1000 bookings are affected, most of which have already been paid. Refunds depend on the payment method: for direct transfers — via a claim in the insolvency proceedings, for card or PayPal payments — via chargeback, and Check24 customers may have separate conditions.
According to a Swiss source, refunds of prepayments are likely to be only partial. At the end of July, the main supplier withdrew more than half of the fleet. According to an Austrian source, the company leased vehicles from a manufacturer association that terminated the contract due to debts. Provisional administrator Rolf G. Pohlmann confirmed that 700–1000 bookings are affected, with many customers left without paid vehicles. Whether this will lead to a collapse of the camper rental market in Germany remains an open question.
