New registrations of caravans in Denmark have more than halved over the past five years, according to Statistics Denmark. One factor is the shift to electric vehicles, as towing a heavy caravan can cut range by half. Sk Caravan director Lars Blom reports falling sales and hopes for better batteries and longer range.

Campers hesitate with electric cars: Torben says the combination is too expensive

Danish caravan owners are reluctant to switch to electric cars due to high costs and reduced range when towing. Sales of new caravans in Denmark have more than halved over the past five years: 755 new caravans registered this year versus over 2,000 five years ago. FDM technical consultant Tom Westersø Larsen notes that with a heavy caravan, an EV's range is halved, and a trip to Lake Garda would require about six charging stops instead of two diesel refuels. Camping Outdoor Denmark director Kirsten Munk Andersen adds that the decline is also due to the growing popularity of other holiday forms.
