Italian police motorhomes already in Rožna Dolina

Motorhomes have been placed at the former border crossing in Rožna Dolina, which Italian police will use for internal border control from June 28 to July 15. No official information on their role is available yet from the Gorizia prefecture or police headquarters. Nova Gorica mayor Mirko Brulc called Italy's decision scandalous, stating that the threat from Slovenia is not significant. Slovenian police already advise citizens to carry identification when crossing internal borders.

Slovenia road trip: through the Julian Alps with a camper

A camper route through the Julian Alps in Slovenia has been presented. The tour starts in Ljubljana and passes through Bled, Kranjska Gora, the Vršič Pass (1,611 m), the Soča Valley, Bovec, Tolmin, Bohinj, and Škofja Loka. The route is only available in summer, as the Vršič Pass opens in early May. The pass is not recommended for large motorhomes and caravans due to steep turns. Wild camping is strictly prohibited in Slovenia.

€500 fine per person: fight against wild camping in the Slovenian Alps

From summer 2026, barriers will be installed on the Vršič Pass in the Julian Alps to regulate traffic. At the same time, local municipalities have increased penalties for wild camping: a fine of €500 per person. In Bohinj, motorhomes, campervans, and caravans are banned from forest roads year-round, and in July-August also from the Savica waterfall. At Lake Bled's central parking, motorhomes pay €3 per hour, and overnight stays are prohibited.
