A motorhome lost control and hit the crash barriers several times on the A14 near the Grabow junction in the night to Tuesday. The driver said he had tried to avoid a wild animal. The vehicle first drifted slightly to the right, and the driver managed to steer it back onto the carriageway. It then went out of control and struck the central reservation barrier. The impact threw it back across the road, where it left the carriageway again and hit the right-hand barrier hard.
The driver was not injured. His companion, a large hunting dog, also escaped unhurt. The damage to the motorhome is estimated at around €210,000, and initial assessments say it is a total loss. The actual value of the vehicle is not yet known, but a comparable new model is likely to cost around €100,000 or more.
The motorway was closed completely at times for the accident investigation and recovery work. It reopened fully in the direction of Dresden after about three hours. Police have begun investigating the exact cause of the crash. The A14 in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district is fenced on both sides with a high barrier against wild animals.
