On the morning of 12 May 2026, a completely burnt-out caravan was discovered in the locality of Fucicchia, Poggio Imperiale (Foggia province), containing the body of a Romanian agricultural worker. The fire occurred during the night, and the body was found at dawn.
According to preliminary reports, the fire was accidental. One source suggests a stove or brazier as the possible cause. Short circuit or heater malfunction are also being considered. Firefighters, carabinieri and forensic experts were on site.
The victim lived in Torremaggiore but slept in the caravan near the fields due to long working hours. The age reported varies: 42, 52, 53 and 56. The incident highlights the precarious housing conditions of seasonal workers in the area.
