The German Federal Court (Bundesgerichtshof) has started hearing appeals in the case of a camper van arson in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The incident occurred in May 2023 at a campsite in Dömitz: three people sleeping inside the van managed to escape after a man, acting on a woman's instructions, doused the vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire.
The Schwerin Regional Court sentenced the woman to 12 years and 6 months in prison and her accomplice to 10 years and 6 months for attempted murder. According to the court, a protracted divorce may have been the motive. Both defendants deny guilt and have appealed. The Federal Court is now examining possible errors in the verdict.
