Early on 4 October at around 6:20, a fire broke out at the Bella Italia campsite in Peschiera del Garda (province of Verona). 24 people were injured: some were taken to Peschiera hospital by Suem 118, while others sought help on their own. According to Italian media, one of the injured is in critical condition, seven sustained moderate injuries and 16 minor injuries.
The fire affected 20 bungalows, several cars and vegetation. Five fire crews contained the flames; the causes are being investigated. According to Alto Adige, more than 20 people were injured; firefighting was complicated by gas cylinders and cars on the site, and one cylinder exploded. The president of the Veneto regional council, Luca Zaia, thanked four German firefighters from Dietzenbach who were on holiday at the campsite and helped fight the fire before local services arrived.
According to Italian authorities, one of the injured suffered severe leg burns, while most suffered carbon monoxide poisoning. Seven people, including a Swiss family with three children, were taken to the emergency department; around 20 structures were destroyed. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

According to Italian media, 20 fire crews and six medical teams took part in the response. At the time of the fire, 4,500 guests were at the campsite, which has a capacity of around 7,000. Firefighters and carabinieri are considering a left candle or a mosquito trap as a possible cause. A Swiss family of four managed to leave their mobile home unharmed.
According to a preliminary version, a candle may have caused the fire; other accidental causes are also being considered. The fire destroyed 30 bungalows and 6 cars, and 7 tourists were injured. The blaze started at around 5:30–6:00 a.m. in mobile home No. 2. It took firefighters about an hour and a half to contain the main flames. One of the injured, a German citizen, suffered third-degree burns and was hospitalised at Pederzoli hospital. Carabinieri in Peschiera del Garda are leading the investigation.
