On June 7, two incidents of illegal caravan encampments occurred in France. In Mions (Rhône), around 200 caravans occupied two plots of land. Mayor Michaël Pacco stated he would not give in and initiated all legal procedures, contacting state services. He personally arrived at the scene at 2:33 PM with the gendarmerie to prevent the first installation, but failed. A second attempt at the Mangetans plot was partially prevented, but the occupation was not fully avoided. The mayor also ordered trenches to be dug to prevent further expansion.
In Fontsorbe near Toulouse, 13 caravans of an evangelical community illegally occupied a football field. Mayor Mathieu Lafou initiated administrative and judicial eviction procedures, refusing to sign a compensation agreement for water and electricity. Concerns over resource access for legally parked local fair participants also played a role.
