Fires
- Portbail (Manche), July 12: fire destroyed 12 mobile homes, 7 vehicles and 2 caravans, covering 21 hectares of vegetation. 81 firefighters responded, about 50 people evacuated, two firefighters slightly injured. 24 mobile homes, 4 caravans and 2 boats saved.
- Confolens (Charente), July 12: fire from a garden shed destroyed a camper van, threatened two houses; about 20 firefighters saved the buildings.
- Castres-Gironde (Gironde), July 19: fire in a travellers' camp destroyed 3 caravans, damaged 5 cars, burned 5000 m². Suspected cause: rubbish pile. 55 firefighters.
- Lancieux (Côtes-d'Armor), July 21: fire at Les Mielles campsite destroyed 3 caravans and a car; 15 firefighters, no injuries.
- Saint-Herblain (near Nantes), July 22: fire in a shantytown destroyed dozens of caravans and 8 hectares of vegetation; about 100 firefighters prevented spread to residential areas and Atlantis shopping centre, saved Calicéo centre.
Illegal Installations
- Bourneuf (Savoie), July 19: about 140 caravans occupied a private field; farmer blocked the entrance, trapping ~60 more. Occupiers said they planned to stay two weeks.
- Comequiers (Vendée), since July 19: about 20 caravans illegally occupied a private plot, hooked up to water and electricity; owner and mayor filed complaints.
- Nieul-le-Dolent (Vendée), since July 19: 120 caravans occupied two football pitches without permission.
