On the evening of May 23, 2026, a motorhome overturned inside the Santa Lucia tunnel on the A1 motorway. The accident was reportedly caused by a tire blowout. Three foreign nationals — a 57-year-old woman, a 58-year-old man, and a 15-year-old girl — sustained injuries and were taken to Careggi hospital with yellow triage codes.
