A fire broke out in the early hours of May 23 in the Stapelriede development area in Wardenburg. Flames completely destroyed a caravan, a passenger car and a 50-meter-long hedge. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to two adjacent residential buildings, though one house suffered damage to its blinds and cornices. During the operation, heat caused controlled gas release from cylinders in the caravan followed by an explosion; no injuries were reported.
