A fire broke out on the night of 23 May 2026 in the new-build area of Stapelriede in Wardenburg, Lower Saxony. According to police, a hedge about 50 metres long caught fire, and the flames spread to a parked caravan and a car. Both vehicles and the hedge were completely destroyed.
The fire threatened two neighbouring houses. Gas cylinders were stored in the caravan; one of them exploded. Firefighters prevented the flames from reaching the residential buildings, but one house suffered damage to its blinds and eaves, and another to its awning and fence. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The damage is estimated at €15,000.
