On July 12, 2026, a caravan caught fire in the east tube of the Westerscheldetunnel (N62) in the Netherlands. According to sources, the fire was noticed around 12:15–12:39. The cause was a punctured tire that began to smoke. No injuries were reported.
Three fire engines and one foam tender were dispatched. The east tube, where the fire occurred, was expected to remain closed until approximately 16:00, while the west tube was closed until 14:15. Drivers were advised to postpone travel or use detour routes U09 and U21.
The tunnel has reopened after being closed for more than two hours.
