At least 34 people, including many children, were injured on Saturday on the A9 motorway in Thuringia, central Germany, when a caravan (trailer) hit several vehicles stopped in a traffic queue. According to German police, the driver of the caravan, which also carried two children, apparently failed to notice the congestion ahead and crashed into the stationary cars. Nine vehicles were heavily damaged, including two minibuses transporting 11 children with special needs and eight caregivers. Material damage is estimated at 350,000 euros. The traffic jam had been caused by an earlier accident in the opposite lane, where a horse trailer overturned.
