On Saturday, July 25, a serious accident occurred on the A9 motorway in Thuringia, central Germany. A motorhome driver, with two children inside, did not see a traffic jam and plowed into stopped cars at high speed. According to police, 34 people were injured, many of them children. All injuries are reported as minor to moderate, and none are life-threatening.
Nine vehicles were severely damaged, including two minibuses carrying 11 disabled children and eight caregivers. The damage is estimated at around 350,000 euros. The traffic jam was caused by a horse trailer overturning on the opposite carriageway. The highway towards Berlin was closed for about five and a half hours.
