At the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, running from August 28 to September 6, 2026, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will present two world premieres: the fully electric ID. California Cruise based on the ID. Buzz and a modular camping solution for the California Beach developed together with Stuff Bubble.
Also on display will be updated California models with new options, including an electric tailgate drive and an improved climate system, as well as the California Ocean "Generation", an aerodynamics package from ABT Sportsline, the Caddy California Maxi, Caddy California, Grand California 600, and Grand California with new options for the 2027 model year. The engine lineup will retain diesel, petrol, and plug-in hybrid versions eHybrid 4MOTION with 180 kW.
The ID. California Cruise concept will serve as the basis for a future family of electric campers planned for release by 2028. The claimed range is 500 km, but due to the ID. Buzz platform's characteristics, the new model will not have a fixed kitchen like classic Californias; instead, modular or removable solutions are offered. The inflatable kitchen from the California Beach kit weighs less than 10 kg, and inflatable mattresses are available in single (6 kg) and double (12 kg) versions; the kit is compatible with the Multivan T7.
New details on the production version
The ID. California Cruise is based on the ID. Buzz Pro. The model is designed for short trips with overnight stays, offers a sleeping area measuring 2.03 by 1.20 metres and a Vehicle-To-Load function with up to 2,000 watts. Sales will begin early next year at a price starting from 60,761 euros for the German market.
In July 2026, the 250,000th California rolled off the line at the Hanover plant. According to one source, production of the California in Hanover has reached 250,000 units since 2004.
