The municipality of Spotorno (Liguria) has introduced a ban on overnight stays in motorhomes across the entire city. The decision aims to combat wild camping but has created a legal paradox: checking whether a person is sleeping inside a motorhome without violating the inviolability of the home is practically impossible.
The Italian Tourist Caravanning Association (ACTI) has filed an official protest with the mayor's office, demanding the repeal of Article 48 of the new local regulation. According to the association, the rule contradicts Article 185 of the Italian Highway Code, which permits motorhome parking on public land provided the vehicle stands on its wheels and does not occupy additional space. ACTI warns of the risk of mass lawsuits and potential budget damage, proposing instead the development of dedicated parking areas.
