In Brief

Authorities in Kumluca district (Antalya) have banned caravan overnight stays on the coast and in public areas. Gendarmerie forcibly removed dozens of motorhomes from Aktash Beach. Caravan owners claim unfair treatment and lack of adequate alternatives.

In the Turkish district of Kumluca (Antalya province), a ban on parking caravans on the coast and in public areas has been introduced. The decision by the district administration (kaymakamlık) is justified by violations of public order, safety, environmental risks, obstructed beach access, and the threat of forest fires.

Gendarmerie forcibly evacuated caravan owners from Aktash Beach in the Mavikent area. According to sources, the municipality prepared an alternative site in Beykonak, but caravan owners deem it unsuitable. Overnight stays are now only allowed at licensed campsites and official caravan parks. Violators face towing to an impound lot.

The ban has sparked controversy. Some local residents support the measures, citing environmental pollution. Caravan owners, many of whom are retirees, protest, claiming they are unfairly lumped together with violators, keep the area clean, and use municipal facilities. Other residents point to the economic benefits of caravan tourism for the region.
