Authorities in the Turkish district of Kumluca (Antalya) have banned caravan accommodation on the coast and in public areas. The ban, issued by the district governorate (kaymakamlık), allows overnight stays only at licensed campsites and official caravan parks.
Gendarmerie forcibly evicted caravan owners from Aktaş beach in the Mavikent area. Officials cite public order and safety issues, obstructed beach access, risk of forest fires, and environmental pollution as reasons.
Caravan owners, many of them retirees, are protesting. They claim they keep the area clean, use municipal facilities, pay taxes, and are unfairly lumped with violators. Some locals support the ban due to pollution, while others highlight the economic benefits of caravan tourism. The municipality prepared an alternative site in Beykonak, but tourists say it is unsuitable.
