Spain is seeing growing tensions between authorities, environmentalists, and motorhome owners. In Almería, the city council installed physical barriers at the former fairground to prevent illegal parking. As a result, caravans moved to other areas: about twenty trailers remained near the Family Park fence and the Auditorio Maestro Padilla parking lot, another twenty settled on new streets in the Vega de Acá district and in the Andarax park, using bus spaces. The official Delta del Andarax motorhome parking by the sea remained partially empty.
In the Cabo de Gata natural park, evictions are also underway due to environmental damage. The municipality is drafting a specific regulation for such vehicles. Registration of new motorhomes and campers in Spain rose by 26.4% in March.
In Cantabria, the Salvar Oyambre platform warned that creating a motorhome zone on the coast of San Vicente de la Barquera would cause damage. Activists argue the project is incompatible with the protected status of the natural park and violates the law.
