Criticism of restrictions
Spanish TV presenter David Cantero, who has travelled with his family by motorhome for over 20 years, published an Instagram post criticizing municipal authorities. He spoke of "motorhome racism" and a lack of infrastructure, urging town halls to develop service areas. According to ASEICAR, Spain lacks around 2,000 motorhome parking spaces.
Statistics and rules
Over the past decade, the motorhome fleet grew by 185% — from 48,000 to nearly 137,000. In summer, around 250,000 motorhomes and campers move across the peninsula. In 2026, instruction DGT PROT 2026/04 was introduced, allowing municipalities to limit parking time and introducing the S-128 sign for dump points, as well as a semi-annual technical inspection for N-category campers older than 10 years.
