Karlovy Vary Region 96Affinity has introduced the Five, a motorhome designed to accommodate up to five people. The vehicle can be driven with a standard driving license, no special category required. The price has not been disclosed, but the manufacturer claims it is affordable for a family budget.
Dagmar, 56, from the Czech Republic, says her husband wants to sell their family home and buy a motorhome to travel across Europe. She opposes the plan, as the home holds memories and is where they meet their children and grandchildren. The couple is seeking a compromise, such as traveling part of the year while keeping the house.
Car camping is popular for saving on accommodation and offering travel freedom. In the Czech Republic, sleeping in a car is allowed almost everywhere except private land and protected areas, but it is banned in Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Croatia. For comfort, experts recommend inflatable mattresses, window shades, and mosquito nets, along with safety measures: locked doors, no idling engine, and valuables out of sight.
A photographer who frequently travels for work bought a medium-sized camper van to accommodate four people and equipment. After a summer trip to Italy, a roof-mounted parking air conditioner was installed, and a roof tent was added to increase sleeping capacity. The owner highlights the practicality of this solution for work trips and family vacations.
In the Czech Republic, building authorities are increasingly forcing owners to remove caravans from their own plots following neighbor complaints. Under the new building law, a caravan on wheels with a valid technical inspection can be classified as a 'product serving the function of a building' if it remains stationary for several months and is used for living or recreation. Fines for such violations reach 400,000 CZK for individuals, and up to 4 million CZK in protected areas.
Experts warn that after summer downpours, caravan owners frequently neglect critical areas such as wet awnings, refrigerator ventilation grilles, and interior moisture. Rolling up a wet awning can lead to mold and odors. Blocked fridge vents reduce cooling efficiency. Inside, damp textiles without ventilation create ideal conditions for mildew.
