In Brief

An alcove motorhome offers more living space and two fixed beds, but has higher fuel consumption and weight restrictions. For winter, key features include insulation up to 50 mm and separation of the cab from the living area.

An alcove motorhome features a living area that extends forward and upward over the driver's cab, creating a sleeping space. This design provides more living space for the same length, two fixed beds, and a lower price compared to fully integrated models.

Disadvantages

  • Increased fuel consumption by 2–3 liters
  • Height from 3.3 meters
  • Weight restrictions (often requiring category C1 license)
  • Reduced handling due to high center of gravity

Winter Camping Advantages

Alcove motorhomes have design features suitable for winter use: insulation up to 50 mm thick, the ability to insulate the cab from the living area, and an efficient heating system. The overview includes models from Bimobil, Concorde, Dethleffs, and Dopfer.
