Expansion in Cumbria
Cumberland Council has approved a planning application to extend Westville Caravan Park in Allonby. The 1.1-hectare site will accommodate 58 static caravans on three internal one-way roads. The planning officer's report notes the development is in keeping with neighbouring sites and will not harm the rural character of the area.
New lodges in Lancashire
Fylde Council has approved the expansion of Lytham Edge Lodge Park (formerly Bank Lane Caravan Park) in Warton, despite resident objections over traffic, drainage and environmental impact. The plan includes 11 lodges, a service yard, workshop and landscaping. Some structures were already built before permission was granted. An ecological assessment showed a 13% net gain in habitat units and over 570% gain in hedgerow units, exceeding requirements.
Application in the Lake District
The Lake District National Park Authority is considering an application to expand Whinfell Caravan Park in Low Lorton, near Cockermouth. The proposal, registered on 18 May, would add 21 static caravans for short-term rental, raising the total from 34 to 55. The applicants describe the expansion as 'modest and proportionate' for an existing tourism business.
