Plans to expand Whinfell Caravan Park at Low Lorton near Cockermouth by more than 60 per cent are recommended for approval despite objections from residents and Blindbothel Parish Council. The park currently has 34 static caravans; the application seeks permission for 21 additional holiday units and associated infrastructure, bringing the total to 55. The Lake District National Park Authority's Development Control Committee will consider the application on Wednesday, October 7, with officers recommending approval subject to conditions. The parish council objects, saying the 62 per cent increase would be detrimental to the locality. Six letters of objection also raise concerns over scale, visibility, light and noise pollution, wildlife disturbance and possible pollution of the River Cocker. Planning officers acknowledge the development would affect the landscape, increasing the footprint by approximately 64 per cent and spreading into open countryside, resulting in low-level harm.
