In Brief

Campsite owners in New Zealand and Ireland have applied to create new pitches for motorhomes and campervans. The projects differ in scale and timeline but both aim to improve tourist infrastructure.

Two independent projects to expand infrastructure for motorhomes and campervans have been announced in New Zealand and Ireland.

New Zealand: Glenlough Campsite

Glenlough Campsite in Union Mills has applied for permission to build five hardstanding pitches for motorhomes. The new pitches will be located on already-used land and will not require expansion of the campsite. The project also includes creating internal access roads and clearing scrub. The applicant describes it as a "reasonable and proportionate improvement" to an existing tourist facility.

Ireland: Bundoran

Carnovan Limited has applied to create 13 campervan pitches in Bundoran. Three pitches will be for day use only, and existing toilets, showers, and reception area will be used for servicing. A decision on the application is expected on August 17.

Fine for pair who brought drugs to Island in campervan toilet

Two visitors from Scotland and Australia were fined after bringing drugs to the Isle of Man concealed in a composting toilet of their campervan. Police found five ecstasy tablets, 1.9g of cocaine, and 8g of cannabis during a routine check after the morning ferry from Heysham. The driver also lacked insurance. The court treated it as simple possession, imposing fines of £200 to £500 each.
