The problem
Residents of the Inver area in south Donegal have expressed dissatisfaction with an influx of campervans at Drumbeg beach. The beach car park cannot cope with large vehicles, leaving regular visitors unable to find parking.
The proposal
Sinn Féin councillor Noel Jordan has called for a height barrier at the car park. At a Donegal Municipal District meeting, he noted that the number of campervans has increased from one or two to nine or ten at a time, causing congestion and inconvenience for locals. The barrier is expected to be installed by next summer.
Context
Jordan said he has no issue with campervans as such, but their actions in this specific area are unfair to the local community. He also pointed to equipped campervan sites in Mountcharles and Spierstown, which he said some are not using.
