After complaints: Stade motorhome site gets renovated access road

On April 24 at around 4:10 PM on the A3 towards Cologne, near the Wiesbaden interchange, a camper van rear-ended the vehicle ahead due to driver inattention. Five vehicles were involved, and the main lanes were completely blocked. Two people were taken to a hospital for evaluation of possible injuries. The traffic jam stretched eight kilometers, and police estimated the damage at €90,000.

The Wasserburg municipal council approved the development plan for a special area for motorhomes and equestrian sports. The project includes an equestrian facility with a 48-space motorhome parking area on land previously used for orchards. A maximum of three tournaments per year (six days) is stipulated, and a mandatory booking system will reduce traffic. Construction starts in autumn, with opening planned for spring 2027.

On Thursday afternoon in Bergedorf, a serious accident occurred between a car and a motorhome. The 75-year-old car driver was seriously injured; the motorhome occupants sustained minor injuries. The city cleaning service was called due to coolant leaking into the sewer. The road was closed until 6:20 PM.

Between April 2 and 23, 2026, a caravan was damaged in Malborn (Hauptstraße, near the 'Zum Steinkopf' junction). Unknown persons scratched four window panes and caused dents. The Hermeskeil police are asking for witness information at 06503-9151-0.

The SPD in Mammendorf criticized the new pricing for the motorhome parking lot at the Freizeitpark as socially unacceptable, but the district council rejected the amendment with a vote of 9 to 3. Since 2025, the overnight fee changed from a flat €15 per motorhome to €10 per night plus per-person charges: €10 for adults, €8 for youth, with free pool entry included. The original flat rate had led to up to eight people per vehicle. The parking lot was originally intended for group leaders.

The city of Lorsch raised the daily ticket price for its motorhome parking from 10 to 20 euros. According to the commentator, abolishing the short-term parking tariff contradicts the goal of attracting day tourists. The price increase is explained by budget constraints but could have been more moderate. The results of this policy will become clear in a year.
