On Ibiza, where the average rental cost reaches 29 euros per square meter, some residents are forced to seek alternative housing. Therapist Yamile Mora rented a motorhome for 550 euros per month, but it had no shower and no way to charge her phone. For hygiene she used a swimming pool, and for charging she went to a café. Authorities evicted about 200 people from the illegal settlement where she lived.

In April, authorities demolished two illegal settlements housing hundreds of people. Law 5/2024 tightened entry rules for motorhomes, requiring campsite reservations, which worsens the situation.
