Irene and Carlos have been living in a converted Volkswagen Crafter van measuring 10 square metres for over three years. The van cost 8,000 euros, the conversion 12,000 euros, and an additional 8,500 euros went on fixing mistakes and repairs after an accident in Croatia. Monthly running costs include 600 euros for the van loan, around 60 euros for internet and mobile, about 250 euros for food, 350 euros for maintenance, and between 100 and 250 euros for diesel depending on mileage. The couple fund their lifestyle through remote work, seasonal jobs and social media income, but say the van life has not yet paid off financially.
