Thuringia has about 170 registered campsites and motorhome stops. From January to December 2025, the region recorded 832,011 overnight stays at campsites. Popular areas include the Hohenwarte Reservoir, Hainich National Park, and the Thuringian Forest. In the Saale-Orla district, camping accounts for 16.8% of tourist overnight stays and 17.5% of tourism revenue. Health resorts like Bad Salzungen and Bad Lobenstein are seeing a rise in 'health resort camping' — guests arriving in their own motorhomes for therapy.
