ADAC Hessen-Thüringen has published guidance for motorhome users planning winter camping in the Thuringian Forest. In a statement dated 5 November 2026, the organisation said campers should check campsites for heated sanitary and communal rooms and drying facilities. It recommends carrying 11 kg of gas as a guideline for two to three days, using frost-proof electric cables and a heated gas regulator. On slippery roads, winter tyres with at least 4 mm tread depth and snow chains are required. The Thuringian Forest offers winter campsites and motorhome stopovers near Oberhof and the Silbersattel ski arena in Steinach.
