Gas Regulator
Pressure regulator, gas governor, cylinder regulator, gas pressure reducer
A gas regulator is a device fitted to a gas cylinder that reduces the high pressure of LPG to a constant low working pressure (28–50 mbar) suitable for motorhome appliances.
Regulators must match the gas type (propane or butane) and country standard. UK appliances use 28–30 mbar; much of continental Europe uses 50 mbar. Replace regulators every 10 years and change type when crossing borders if needed.
FAQ
Do I need to change my regulator when travelling between countries?
Possibly. UK-spec appliances run at 28–30 mbar; most Continental European appliances run at 50 mbar. If your motorhome was built for Continental use (50 mbar regulator) you do not need to change it when crossing European borders. If you have a UK-spec 28 mbar regulator and are using Continental appliances, they may not function correctly. A GOK dual-pressure or adjustable regulator avoids the issue.
How often should a gas regulator be replaced?
Every 10 years regardless of apparent condition (check the manufacture date stamped on the body). Replace sooner if there is corrosion, visible damage, or if a leak test shows seepage. A faulty regulator can deliver dangerously high or fluctuating pressure to appliances.
