Troy Williams, 33, from Cornwall, who works remotely in sales and marketing, converted a 2016 VW Transporter into a camper van, spending £28,000 on purchase and fitting. Previously he spent £2,000 a month on rent and bills; now costs have dropped to £450, including fuel, communication, and subscriptions. One source reports savings of £1,500 a month; another says £18,000 a year.
The move was driven by high housing bills and veterinary costs for two elderly dogs, reaching £11,000 over a year, as well as a desire to spend more time with them. Williams rents out his house to a friend and travels across southern England and Wales.
