According to a study by the camper-sharing platform Yescapa, 2.5 million people, including 130,000 Italians, plan to use campers for summer trips. 46% of them are aged 25–34. 64% of Italian travelers will choose foreign destinations, with Spain, Portugal and Italy leading. Only 19% of trips fall in August, indicating a decline in seasonality.
Mythic routes and Sicily guide
Yescapa also selected five routes along the Italian coast linked to local legends: Cala Luna in Sardinia (pirate Dragut), the Strait of Capo Peloro in Sicily (myth of fisherman Colapesce), Castro in Apulia (Cinzuluzza cave), Tellaro in Liguria (story of rescue by an octopus) and Sirolo on the Adriatic (mermaid legend). The platform manages over 35,000 vehicles and offers multi-risk insurance for European carsharing.
PleinAir magazine released the guide "Sicilia in camper" with eight itineraries for camper travel. The publication recommends planning the trip off-season to avoid tourist crowds. The guide lists parking spots, attractions and little-known sites. Routes cover Etna, Marsala salt pans, Magna Graecia monuments and the Apennines.
