TT campers in 'high spirits' despite rain affecting race week

Authorities on the Isle of Man have urged campervan users to stop using public spaces on Douglas Promenade as makeshift campsites, following a complaint from a resident during the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT. The resident reported that visitors parked motorbikes on the walkway and set out furniture, including tables and chairs. Instead of issuing fines, council wardens are visiting the area daily and placing information notices on the bikes. In a joint statement, the Department of Infrastructure and the council said they aim to inform visitors about using campsites, and plan to purchase signage next year to clarify that camping and campervans are not allowed. This follows previous action last year over overnight parking and concerns about waste disposal.

A Kirk Michael man is appealing for information about a missing caravan. Paul Heavey posted on Facebook that the caravan disappeared from a farm on Ballaleigh Road in the last 48 hours. He was due to go away in it in three weeks and asks anyone with information to contact him or the police.

At a meeting of the Onchan local authority, Commissioner David Quirk said campervans parked on roads are causing a nuisance to residents. Chief Executive Ross Phillips said he would investigate a claim that someone was living in one on Belgravia Road.

Two race fans were found guilty of attempting to bring drugs into the Isle of Man hidden in a campervan's compost toilet. The court fined them a total of £1,300.

Glenlough Campsite in Union Mills has submitted a planning application for five motorhome hardstandings. The new pitches will be located within areas already used by motorhomes and will not involve site expansion. The proposal also includes new internal access tracks and clearance of low scrub. The applicant describes it as a 'sensible and proportionate enhancement' of an existing tourism facility.
