In the new WDR program “We’re Becoming Campers,” Rüdiger and Petra Erbslöh, who bought a motorhome shortly after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, set off for the Netherlands. They visit the old Hanseatic towns of Kampen and Deventer. In Kampen, they tour an old cigar factory where cigars are still made by hand. In Deventer, guide Truus claims her city is the most beautiful in the world.
Along the North Sea coast, the couple discovers sand sculptures created by record holders Evgenia Kolot and Martin Tedder. At the restaurant of Petra van de Zande, which employs people with disabilities, they learn about differences between the Dutch and Germans. In Zaandam, they see windmills and traditional wooden houses, and take a boat trip on the River Zaan to view one of Europe’s first industrial areas. During a bike ride in Flevoland, they observe storks and young wild boars. For the retirees, it’s also a chance to compare campsites and learn about new trends.
